Gym Intimidation

well okay, so i started this blog in hopes to track my fitness journey and it quickly turned into an everything else blog...  which is totally fine with me because i love to write and share about whatever! but in all reality, i love fitness!!

i love the way i feel when i am active and eating healthy!! it makes a huge difference in so many aspects of my life! i feel confident in my skin, i have energy, i am more productive, i am happier! however, the gym has always always always been super intimidating to me. i am still a beginner and so i don't know my stuff. i'm afraid people will watch me and judge me for not doing things right or for not being super toned and muscly!!

i love cardio tons, the elliptical is one of my favorites.  running on the treadmill, biking, the stair stepper! give me all the cardio! but because i want to tone out and gain a little muscle i've gotta step out of my comfort zone and step into the weight training.  which means, equipment!!

for some reason, i've never been able to figure out the equipment on my first try and then i just feel like a complete idiot. so i move on and get discouraged. but i am moving past that, and learning more and more about weight lifting and using all the fancy machines and equipment!

it's fun, and intimidating all at the same time! i honestly can't wait to see my progression over the next couple of months! i wanted to throw in a little booty + leg exercises for you all! if you decide to try it out, comment below and let me know how you felt afterwards! ps you will need a gym for this exercise! or if you have all the equipment in your home, you are a lucky duck! you could also modify it if a gym is not accessible!!

so start by warming up a little bit,

30 jumping jacks
20 squats (no weight added)
10 burpees

your heart should be pumping which means you're ready to kick some booty!!

i want you to complete each exercise 3x with 10-12 reps, push yourselves so you can sculpt that booty which i too am working on!

LEG PRESS with wide stance- choose your weight- once you have done 10-12 reps immediately move your feet in closer (about 2 inches apart)  for 10-12 more reps. complete 3x!

SQUATS- you can either do these at the machine, or just with dumb bells, completely up to you! choose your weight and place your legs at shoulder width apart and begin, 10-12 reps, 3x!

SUMO SQUATS- basically the same exercise as the one just before except move your legs out to a wide stance, try to go as low as possible! 10-12 reps, 3x baby!

CABLE KICK BACKS- go ahead and get yourself set up at the cables,  once you are ready to begin take a couple steps away from the equipment, bend slightly foward making sure your booty is poking out, your back is flat while holding onto the machine. one leg at a time, kick your leg back while squeezing the booty. 10-12 reps, threeeeeee times! and switch legs!

CURTSY LUNGE- stepping back to the opposite corner while lunging, alternating legs each time. each leg 10-12 reps, 3x!

KETTLE BELL SQUAT- grab a kettle bell at the weight of your choice, feet shoulder width apart and squat.  this is not a swing. 10-12 reps, three times!

  1. That's great that you are trying out the gym and getting into it. It's a lot of fun once you know the machines and learn how to alter moves. I've been active for a long time but over the last few years have really taken up weights and worked (still working on perfecting my body). My fitness journey has taken me far and wide but it's finally all coming together and it's majorly showing now from all the hard work. The key at the gym is as much as it is about working harder, it's also working smarter. One thing you want to think about when doing any reps is contracting because if you don't it's a lost effort. In addition, try to do each set to failure. Sometimes not counting is better because you train your body to go to the point it can no longer lift, squat or bend. Hope these tips help.
